A Passage from the Tale

The Beaver's Birthday Bridge Çınar BİBER

In the heart of the green forest, where the river chattered over smooth stones, lived Benny the beaver. Benny was small and sturdy, with warm brown fur, a cream belly, and a big flat tail. He wore a red work apron with a small hammer tucked in the front pocket. Benny loved to build things, and he was always the first to help a friend in need. 1

One sunny morning, Benny woke up with a wonderful idea. His birthday was coming soon, and he wanted to give a special gift to the forest. "I will build a bridge across the river!" he said. "Then everyone can cross safely and easily." He grabbed his hammer and headed to the riverbank, his round dark eyes shining with excitement. 2

Benny chose the perfect spot where the river was wide and the banks were high. He began to gather logs and branches, dragging them one by one. His big white front teeth worked quickly, gnawing the wood into shape. But the pile of logs grew slowly, and the sun climbed higher in the sky. "There is so much work to do!" Benny sighed, wiping his brow. 3

Benny worked all morning, but the bridge was still just a few logs lying on the ground. His flat tail slapped the water in frustration. "I will never finish in time for my birthday celebration," he said. Just then, Lily the otter popped her head out of the river. Her sleek chocolate-brown fur glistened, and her yellow bandana fluttered in the breeze. "What are you building, Benny?" she asked. 4

Benny explained his plan to build a bridge as a birthday gift for the forest. Lily's bright hazel eyes sparkled. "That's a wonderful idea! But you can't do it all alone. Let me help!" She scampered up the bank and began to carry small branches. Her blue overalls were soon covered in wood chips, but she didn't mind. "We need more help," said Lily. "I'll rally the others!" 5

Lily dashed through the forest, calling to her friends. She found Hootie the owl perched on a branch, wearing his round glasses and green knitted scarf. "Hootie, Benny is building a bridge for his birthday, and he needs our help!" Hootie nodded wisely. "Teamwork finishes the job," he said. He grabbed his small brown satchel of nails and flew down to the riverbank. 6

Meanwhile, Rosie the rabbit was hopping along the path, her long ears twitching. When she heard about Benny's bridge, she bounced with joy. "I can carry planks and paint the rail!" she squeaked. Her pink dress fluttered as she hurried to join the others. Soon, all three friends stood beside Benny, ready to help. Benny's heart swelled with gratitude. 7

Hootie took charge, his golden eyes calm and kind. "Lily, you and Rosie carry the wood. I'll bring the nails. Benny, you show us where to hammer." Everyone got to work. Lily hauled branches with her sleek body, Rosie carried small planks in her paws, and Hootie handed out nails from his satchel. Benny hammered them in with steady taps. The bridge began to take shape. 8

The sun climbed high, and the friends worked without stopping. Lily's yellow bandana was soaked with effort, and Rosie's white fur was dusty, but they kept smiling. "We're doing it!" cheered Rosie. Hootie adjusted his glasses and said, "Steady and slow wins the race." Benny looked at his friends and felt a warm glow inside. He wasn't alone anymore. 9

But as the afternoon wore on, the bridge still needed more work. The railing was missing, and the last few planks weren't in place. Benny began to worry. "The celebration starts soon!" he cried. Lily patted his shoulder. "Don't worry, Benny. We'll finish together." Hootie nodded. "Many hands make light work." Rosie bounced up and down. "Let's hurry!" 10

Just then, Rosie had an idea. "I can paint the railing while you finish the planks!" She grabbed a brush and a pot of bright red paint. With quick strokes, she painted the rail, adding cheerful flowers. Lily and Hootie carried the last planks, and Benny hammered them in place. The bridge was almost done. Everyone worked faster, their hearts set on finishing in time. 11

At last, Benny hammered the final nail. The bridge stood strong and beautiful, stretching across the sparkling river. "We did it!" shouted Lily, her hazel eyes shining. Hootie gave a wise smile. "A job well done." Rosie clapped her paws. "It's perfect!" Benny looked at the bridge and then at his friends. "Thank you," he said softly. "You made this possible." 12

As the sun began to set, the forest animals gathered for the birthday celebration. They gasped when they saw the new bridge. "It's wonderful!" they cried. Benny stood proudly with his friends. "This bridge is my gift to you all," he announced. "But I couldn't have done it without Lily, Hootie, and Rosie. It's a gift from all of us." Everyone cheered and clapped. 13

One by one, the animals crossed the bridge. The rabbits hopped, the squirrels scampered, and the birds flew overhead. The bridge was strong and safe. Benny watched with a happy heart. "A useful gift made with love and help from friends is the best gift of all," he said. His friends nodded in agreement. The celebration was filled with laughter and joy.
