Ella the elephant lives happily in a cozy jungle clearing with her family, wearing a bright yellow scarf and a shiny gold hoop earring on her left ear. The earring was a gift from her grandmother, and Ella treasures it more than anything because it holds memories of her grandmother's hugs and stories. One sunny afternoon she reaches up to touch it and discovers her left ear is bare. Her friend Mimi the meerkat, quick and kind with a little red backpack, promises to help her find it.
Together the two friends search the places Ella visited that day. They check the riverbank, where Ella swishes her trunk through the water while Mimi peers at fish and pebbles. They comb the mango grove, looking high in the branches and low in the grass, and they peer under bushes and inside hollow logs. As the search goes on, Ella grows sadder, but Mimi keeps a list in her notebook and refuses to give up. Finally, under the big banyan tree, a small cousin named Timmy asks a question that changes everything, and the friends hurry off to find Grandma Pearl.
This gentle jungle tale is about friendship, patience and asking questions before giving in to worry. Young readers follow Ella and Mimi through a warm, familiar world of rivers, mango trees and family gatherings, learning that a lost treasure is often closer than it seems and that a helpful friend makes every worry lighter. It suits children at the picture-book and early-reader stage, and adults looking for a calm bedtime story about kindness and family.

A Passage from the Tale
The Elephant's Lost Earring Çınar BİBER
In a cozy jungle clearing, Ella the elephant lived happily with her family. Her soft blue-grey skin was wrinkled like a favorite old blanket, and her big floppy ears flapped gently in the breeze. Around her neck, she wore a bright yellow scarf that always made her smile. On her left ear, a tiny flower mark peeked out from behind a shiny gold hoop earring. Ella loved that earring more than anything. 1
Every morning, Ella walked to the river to splash water on her wrinkled skin. She always checked that her gold hoop earring was safe on her left ear. 'This earring was a gift from my grandmother,' she told her friend Mimi the meerkat. Mimi, with her sandy tan fur and dark eye patches, nodded wisely. 'It must be very special,' Mimi said, adjusting her little red backpack. 'It holds lots of memories,' Ella replied. 2
One sunny afternoon, Ella reached up to touch her earring and gasped. Her left ear was bare! 'Oh no!' she cried, her small dark eyes filling with tears. 'My earring is gone!' Mimi scurried over, her long thin tail twitching with concern. 'Don't worry, Ella,' she said. 'We'll find it together.' Ella's big floppy ears drooped sadly, and her bright yellow scarf seemed to droop too. 3
Mimi pulled out a tiny notebook from her red backpack. 'Let's make a list of everywhere you've been today,' she said. Ella thought hard. 'I was at the river, then the mango grove, and then the shady spot under the big banyan tree.' Mimi wrote it all down with her little pencil. 'We'll search high and low,' she promised. 'First, let's check the riverbank.' 4
At the river, Ella waded into the cool water and swished her trunk back and forth. 'Is it here?' she called. Mimi climbed onto a rock and peered into the water. 'I see shiny fish and smooth pebbles, but no earring,' she reported. Ella sighed. 'It's so small,' she said. 'It could be anywhere.' Mimi patted her friend's big wrinkled leg. 'We won't give up,' she said cheerfully. 5
Next, they searched the mango grove. Mimi scampered up a tree while Ella stretched her trunk high into the branches. 'Any luck?' Mimi asked, hanging by her tail. 'Just lots of juicy mangoes,' Ella said. 'But no earring.' She felt more and more sad. 'That earring was my grandmother's,' she whispered. 'It reminds me of her hugs and her stories.' Mimi's bright amber eyes softened with kindness. 6
They looked under bushes and behind rocks. Mimi checked inside hollow logs, and Ella swept the grass with her trunk. 'We've looked everywhere!' Ella cried. Her yellow scarf drooped, and she plopped down on a patch of soft clover. 'Maybe it's lost forever.' Mimi sat beside her and put a tiny paw on Ella's big foot. 'Let's check the banyan tree,' she said gently. 'That's the last place.' 7
Under the banyan tree, the shade was cool and quiet. Ella remembered sitting there that morning, listening to the birds. 'I was thinking about my family,' she said. 'We're planning a big party.' Mimi's ears perked up. 'A party?' she asked. 'Yes, a surprise party for Grandma Pearl's birthday,' Ella said. 'But now I'm too sad to celebrate.' Mimi looked thoughtful and scratched her chin. 8
Just then, Ella's little cousin Timmy trotted by. 'Why the long face, Ella?' he asked. 'I lost my gold earring,' Ella said. Timmy tilted his head. 'Didn't Grandma Pearl borrow it?' he asked. 'She said she needed something special for the party.' Ella's eyes went wide. 'She did?' Mimi jumped up. 'Let's go ask her!' she said, and they hurried off together. 9
They found Grandma Pearl in her cozy nook, wearing her lavender shawl and pearl necklace. 'Grandma,' Ella said, 'do you have my earring?' Grandma Pearl chuckled, her crinkled eyes twinkling behind her round glasses. 'Oh, dear,' she said. 'I borrowed it this morning for the surprise party. I wanted to wear something sparkly for the family photo.' She held out the shiny gold hoop earring. 10
Ella gasped with relief. 'You borrowed it?' she said. 'I was so worried!' Grandma Pearl smiled warmly. 'I'm sorry, sweetheart,' she said. 'I should have told you. But I wanted it to be a surprise.' Ella put the earring back on her left ear, and it gleamed in the sunlight. 'I'm just glad it's safe,' she said. Mimi did a happy little dance. 'Mystery solved!' she chirped. 11
Grandma Pearl led them to the party clearing. Ella's whole family was there! Aunts, uncles, and cousins waved and cheered. 'Surprise!' they shouted. There were balloons, mango cake, and a big banner that said 'Happy Birthday, Grandma Pearl!' Ella laughed with joy. 'This is the best surprise ever!' she said. Mimi grinned and adjusted her green leaf clip. 'And your earring is back where it belongs,' she said. 12
Ella hugged Grandma Pearl tightly. 'Thank you for borrowing my earring,' she said. 'It made your birthday extra special.' Grandma Pearl hugged her back. 'The earring is beautiful,' she said, 'but the memories we make together are the real treasure.' Ella nodded. 'I'll always remember this day,' she said. Mimi raised her tiny paw. 'Me too!' she said. 'Now, who wants cake?' 13
Everyone laughed and gathered around the big mango cake. Ella looked at her family, all smiling and happy. She touched her gold hoop earring and smiled. 'I used to think this earring was the most important thing,' she said to Mimi. 'But now I know that our family memories matter more.' Mimi nodded. 'That's right,' she said. 'The earring is just a thing.
