Maya is a small girl with big hazel eyes and curly dark-brown hair who loves to explore, and the friendly farm at the end of her street is her favourite place. One sunny morning she pulls on her yellow rain boots, shoulders her green canvas satchel and sets off, unaware that a special friend is waiting for her. Behind a hay bale she finds Pip, a fuzzy pink piglet with floppy ears, a heart-shaped patch on his forehead and a blue ribbon collar with a little brass bell. The farmer explains that Pip was rescued only a few days ago and is still frightened of everything new, so Maya sits quietly on the grass and decides to show him, slowly and gently, that she is a friend.
Day after day Maya returns with soft toys and tasty treats. She rolls a cuddly toy sheep across the grass, scatters a trail of apple slices and carrot sticks, builds a cardboard playhouse lined with blankets, and invents gentle games such as hide-and-seek and roll the ball. Each small step Pip takes is met with quiet encouragement rather than pressure, and bit by bit his fear gives way to curiosity. When he is still shy around new people, Maya sets up a soft confidence course of low hay bales, a ramp and a blanket tunnel, and waits at the end to cheer him on.
The story follows the patient friendship between a curious child and a rescued animal, showing young readers how trust is built through kindness, calm voices and time rather than hurry. It is a warm read-aloud choice for children in the early school years and for anyone who enjoys gentle animal tales about courage and care.

A Passage from the Tale
The Girl and the Piglet Çınar BİBER
Maya was a small girl with big hazel eyes and curly darkbrown hair that bounced when she walked. She loved to explore the world around her, especially the friendly farm at the end of her street. One sunny morning, she pulled on her yellow rain boots and denim overalls over her striped shirt. She grabbed her green canvas satchel, ready for a new adventure. Little did she know, a special friend was waiting to meet her. 1
At the farm, a fuzzy pink piglet peeked out from behind a hay bale. His floppy ears drooped, and his tiny heart-shaped patch on his forehead was barely visible. He wore a blue ribbon collar with a little brass bell that jingled softly. When Maya stepped closer, the piglet scurried back, his small dark eyes wide with fear. 'It's okay, little one,' Maya whispered, her voice as soft as a feather. 2
The farmer told Maya the piglet's name was Pip, and he had been rescued just a few days ago. Pip was still scared of everything new. Maya's heart ached for the shy little pig. She noticed how he trembled when she moved too fast. So she sat down quietly on the soft grass and waited. 'I'll show you I'm a friend,' she said gently, and she meant it with all her heart. 3
Maya reached into her green satchel and pulled out a soft, cuddly toy sheep. She rolled it gently across the grass toward Pip. The piglet's ears perked up, but he didn't move. Maya waited patiently, her hazel eyes full of kindness. After a long moment, Pip took one tiny step forward, then another. He sniffed the toy sheep and gave a little snort. Maya smiled, careful not to startle him. 4
Each day, Maya visited Pip with new soft toys in her satchel. She brought a fluffy duck, a squishy ball, and a little cloth star. She would place them in a circle around her and wait for Pip to explore. At first, Pip only watched from a distance. But soon, curiosity got the better of him. He waddled over and nudged the fluffy duck with his snout. Maya clapped softly, and Pip's tail gave a tiny wiggle. 5
Maya noticed Pip loved tasty treats. She filled her satchel with apple slices, carrot sticks, and little oat cookies. She would scatter them on the grass, making a trail for Pip to follow. The piglet's nose twitched with excitement. He followed the trail, snuffling and munching happily. When he reached the last treat, Maya was waiting with a gentle smile. 'You did it, Pip!' she cheered, and his floppy ears lifted just a little. 6
One afternoon, Maya brought a big cardboard box and cut little windows in it. She called it a 'piglet playhouse' and filled it with soft blankets and toys. Pip was unsure at first. He circled the box, his little brass bell jingling. Maya sat beside it and patted the blanket inside. 'Look, Pip, it's cozy,' she said. Slowly, Pip stepped inside. He turned around three times and then flopped down with a happy sigh. Maya giggled with delight. 7
Maya and Pip began to play gentle games together. They played hide-and-seek with the soft toys. Maya would hide the fluffy duck behind a bush, and Pip would sniff it out. Each time he found it, Maya cheered, and Pip's curly tail wiggled faster. They also played 'roll the ball,' where Maya gently rolled a soft ball to Pip, and he pushed it back with his snout. Their playtime was full of soft snorts and happy little bells. 8
Pip started to feel braver. He no longer hid behind the hay bale when Maya arrived. Instead, he trotted out to greet her, his little hooves tapping on the ground. He explored the farmyard with Maya by his side, sniffing flowers and chasing butterflies. Maya stayed close, always gentle and patient. 'You're getting so brave, Pip,' she told him. The piglet looked up at her with trusting eyes and gave a joyful snort. 9
One day, Maya brought a new toy: a soft, colorful ball with a bell inside. She rolled it gently toward Pip. At first, Pip just watched it wobble. Then, with a little oink, he pounced on it! He pushed it with his snout and chased it around the grass. The bell inside jingled merrily. Maya laughed and clapped her hands. 'You're playing, Pip!' she cried. The piglet's white heart patch seemed to glow with happiness. 10
Maya noticed that Pip was still a little shy around new people. So she decided to create a special 'confidence course' just for him. She set up soft obstacles: a low hay bale to step over, a gentle ramp to walk up, and a little tunnel made of blankets. Pip looked at the course with curious eyes. Maya stood at the end and called softly, 'Come on, Pip! You can do it!' 11
Pip took a deep breath and stepped over the hay bale. His blue ribbon collar jingled as he moved. He walked up the ramp, wobbling just a little, and then peeked through the blanket tunnel. Maya cheered him on with gentle words. 'That's it, Pip! You're so brave!' When he reached the end, he did a little victory dance, snorting with joy. Maya hugged him gently, and Pip leaned into her warmth.
