In the tall gum trees, Kiki the koala and Gus the gliding possum are best friends who share a leafy home with other animals. But one wild and windy night, a giant gum tree crashes down across the path, blocking the way completely. The animals are stranded, unable to reach the high gum leaves, and everyone is worried.
Kiki and Gus spring into action. They realize the fallen tree is too dangerous to cross, so Gus suggests building a treetop bridge high above it. With Gus gliding across the gap with vine cord and Kiki carefully checking each knot and branch, they work together all day. Friends bring twigs and leaves to help, and slowly the bridge takes shape. But will it be strong enough for everyone, including Wally the wombat? The story follows their teamwork and determination as they create a safe path for all.

A Passage from the Tale
The Koala's New Path Çınar BİBER
High in the tall gum trees, where the leaves whisper and the breeze smells sweet, lived Kiki the koala. She had soft grey fur, a creamy white chest, and big fluffy ears with white tufts inside. Her dark brown eyes were always watching for danger. Kiki carried a woven leaf satchel across her chest, with a little red gum-leaf badge pinned on it. She was gentle, thoughtful, and very careful. 1
Not far away lived Gus, a young gliding possum with warm brown fur and a pale cream belly. His wide dark eyes sparkled with fun, and his long fluffy tail curled around branches. Gus wore a small blue tool pouch on a belt, filled with vine cord and twigs. He was cheerful, brave, and quick. Kiki and Gus were best friends, and they loved their leafy home. 2
Every morning, the animals of the gum trees traveled along a wide, safe path from the low branches to the high feeding grounds. Kiki climbed slowly, checking each branch. Gus glided from tree to tree, his flaps spread wide like a little cape. "All clear!" he would call, and the others would follow. The path was busy with possums, birds, and even a slow old wombat named Wally. 3
One wild and windy night, a giant gum tree crashed down across the path. Its trunk lay thick and heavy, and its branches tangled like a fence. When the sun rose, the animals gathered and gasped. "Oh no!" cried Kiki. "We can't cross!" The fallen tree blocked the way completely, and the bark was too steep and slippery to climb. 4
The friends tried to find another way. A young possum tried to squeeze under the trunk, but the gap was too small. A bird tried to fly over, but the tangle of branches was too thick. Wally the wombat just shook his head. "I'm too heavy to jump," he said sadly. Everyone looked worried. They needed to reach the high gum leaves, and the sun was already getting warm. 5
Kiki checked the fallen tree carefully, climbing up and down its rough bark. "It's too dangerous to cross here," she said. "Someone could slip and get hurt." Gus glided down beside her, his blue pouch swinging. "We need a new path," he said. "A safe one for everyone—climbers and flyers alike." The friends nodded. But what could they do? 6
Gus had an idea. He looked up at the tall trees on either side of the fallen one. "What if we build a bridge high up, from branch to branch?" he said. "Then everyone can cross above the fallen tree!" Kiki's eyes lit up. "A treetop bridge!" she said. "But it must be strong and safe. We'll need lots of vines and branches." 7
Kiki and Gus got to work. Gus glided across the gap, carrying vine cord in his tool pouch. He looped it around strong branches and pulled it tight. Kiki climbed slowly, checking each knot and each branch. "This one is sturdy," she said. "But we need more support here." She tied extra vines and wove them together. Their friends brought more twigs and leaves to help. 8
All day they worked, and the bridge began to grow. It stretched from one tall tree to the other, a safe path above the fallen trunk. Kiki tested each step. "We must make sure it's wide enough for Wally," she said. Gus added extra branches for strength. "And a railing so no one slips," he said. The bridge was looking good, but it still needed a final check. 9
Finally, the bridge was ready. "I'll go first," said Gus. "I can glide across and test it from above." He spread his flaps and sailed over the bridge, landing lightly on the other side. "It holds!" he called. "Now let's test it for climbers." Kiki climbed onto the bridge and walked slowly across, checking every step. "It's safe!" she announced. "Everyone can cross!" 10
One by one, the animals crossed the new treetop bridge. The possums scurried, the birds hopped, and Wally the wombat walked slowly and carefully. "This is wonderful!" said Wally. "I feel safe." The birds chirped, and the possums cheered. "Thank you, Kiki and Gus!" they cried. Kiki smiled, and Gus did a happy little flip in the air. 11
That evening, the animals gathered on the bridge to celebrate. They brought sweet gum leaves and berries to share. "You two are heroes!" said a little possum. But Kiki shook her head. "We just wanted everyone to be safe," she said. Gus nodded. "Good neighbors think about everyone," he said. "Climbers and flyers, big and small." 12
From that day on, the treetop bridge was the busiest path in the gum trees. Kiki and Gus often sat on it, watching their friends cross safely. "I'm glad we built it," said Kiki. "Me too," said Gus. "And I'm glad we checked it together." They smiled at each other, happy that their hard work had helped so many. 13
The fallen tree still lay below, but it didn't matter anymore. The animals had a new path, and it was safe for everyone. Kiki kept her leaf satchel close, always ready to check a branch. Gus kept his blue tool pouch filled, always ready to fix a knot. And their friends knew they could always count on them.
