Little Seal lives in a cozy cove where the sea sings soft songs beneath the ice. One morning, while digging for clams, his flipper strikes something hard: a shiny brass compass on a blue cord. Curious and brave, he ties it around his neck and sets off across the frozen sea, following the trembling red needle toward the far ice. But the needle soon swings left and right and spins in circles, leaving the young seal dizzy and confused on the wide white plain.
A gentle voice hums from a gap in the ice, and a friendly narwhal with a long spiral tusk rises to help. Narwhal teaches Little Seal that a compass must be held flat and steady to point true, and together they travel north toward the shimmering Glacier Gate. Along the way they cross slippery ice, wait out a howling storm, and rest in a cozy cave where Little Seal shares his fish and learns that helping each other makes every journey better.
The story follows a small seal who discovers that the compass is not magic but a tool, and that the real gift of his adventure is the friendship that guides him home. Told in warm, simple language, it shows young readers how curiosity, patience and asking for help can turn a frightening journey into a confident one. It is suited to children in the early primary years and to anyone reading aloud at bedtime.

A Passage from the Tale
The Little Seal's Compass Çınar BİBER
Little Seal lived in a cozy cove where the sea sang soft songs under the ice. His fur was grey with pale speckles, and his eyes were round and dark as pebbles. One morning, while digging for clams, his flipper struck something hard. It was a shiny brass compass, its red needle trembling on a blue cord. Little Seal tied it around his neck and felt a tingle of adventure. 1
The compass needle spun and pointed toward the far ice. Little Seal had never gone far from home, but his heart beat fast with curiosity. He packed a snack of fish and kissed his mother goodbye. 'I'll follow the needle,' he said bravely. The ice stretched white and wide, and the compass gleamed like a tiny sun on his chest. 2
The journey began across the frozen sea. Little Seal slid on his belly and wiggled his flippers, leaving a trail of sparkles. The compass pointed straight ahead, so he followed happily. But after a while, the needle swung left, then right, then spun in circles. Little Seal stopped, confused. 'Which way now?' he whispered to the ice. 3
The needle pointed toward a tall iceberg, then suddenly flipped back toward home. Little Seal turned around and around until he felt dizzy. 'This compass is silly!' he squeaked. He sat on the ice and stared at the shiny brass circle. The red needle wiggled and wobbled, never staying still. Little Seal did not know what to do. 4
Just then, a gentle voice hummed from a gap in the ice. 'Hello, little one. You look puzzled.' A long, spiral tusk rose from the water, followed by a friendly blue-grey head. It was a narwhal, with kind eyes and a gentle smile. 'I'm Narwhal,' said the creature. 'Can I help you with that shiny thing?' Little Seal nodded, relieved. 5
Narwhal swam closer and peered at the compass. 'Ah,' he said wisely, 'this is a compass. Its needle always points north, but you must hold it flat and steady.' Little Seal tried, but his flippers shook. 'Let me show you,' said Narwhal. He nudged the compass with his tusk until the needle settled. 'North is that way,' he said, pointing with his tusk. 6
Little Seal practiced holding the compass still. At first, the needle wobbled, but soon it pointed true. 'I did it!' he cheered. Narwhal smiled. 'You're a quick learner. Now, where are you going?' Little Seal wasn't sure. He had just followed the needle. 'Maybe we can find out together,' said Narwhal. 'I know these waters well.' 7
They set off together, Narwhal gliding through the water and Little Seal sliding on the ice. The compass pointed north, toward a shimmering wall of ice. 'That's the Glacier Gate,' said Narwhal. 'It's beautiful but tricky. We must go slowly.' Little Seal felt a flutter of worry, but Narwhal's calm voice made him brave. 8
At the Glacier Gate, the ice cracked and groaned. Little Seal's flippers slipped on the smooth surface. 'I can't make it!' he cried. Narwhal swam close. 'Yes, you can. I'll be right beside you.' He used his tusk to tap a safe path, and Little Seal followed the taps. The compass pointed steadily north, and together they crossed the slippery ice. 9
On the other side, a wide frozen plain stretched out, dotted with snow hills. 'We're halfway,' said Narwhal. 'But a storm is coming.' Dark clouds gathered, and wind began to howl. Little Seal shivered. 'I'm scared,' he admitted. Narwhal wrapped his long body around him. 'Storms pass. We'll wait here together.' The compass stayed warm against Little Seal's chest. 10
When the storm cleared, the compass needle pointed toward a cozy cave in the ice. 'That looks like a good place to rest,' said Narwhal. They went inside, and Little Seal shared his fish. 'Thank you for helping me,' he said. 'I couldn't have done this alone.' Narwhal smiled. 'Helping each other makes every journey better,' he said. 11
In the cave, Little Seal noticed something glowing in the corner. It was a pile of shiny stones, just like his compass. 'Look!' he exclaimed. Narwhal chuckled. 'Those are just pretty pebbles, but they remind me of something. The compass didn't just show you the way. It brought us together.' Little Seal nodded, understanding. 12
Little Seal realized the compass wasn't magic. It was a tool, and Narwhal was a friend. 'I think I'm ready to go home now,' he said. 'But I'll need your help to find the way.' Narwhal agreed. 'We'll follow the compass south,' he said. 'And I'll stay with you until you're safe.' They set off, the needle pointing the way. 13
The journey back was easier with Narwhal beside him. They laughed at the wobbling needle and shared stories. When they reached Little Seal's cove, his mother was waiting. 'You're safe!' she cried. Little Seal hugged her and then hugged Narwhal. 'My friend helped me,' he said. 'And I helped him too.' 14
Little Seal kept the compass on its blue cord. He learned to hold it flat and steady, and sometimes he visited Narwhal at the ice gap. They would trade fish and tales. 'The compass points north,' Little Seal would say, 'but friendship points home.' Narwhal would nod and smile. 15
And so, the little seal with speckled fur and the narwhal with a spiral tusk remained friends. They knew that every journey is safer with a helping hand, or flipper, or tusk. The compass still hangs around Little Seal's neck, a shiny reminder that cooperation makes every adventure better. And if you listen closely, you can hear them laughing across the ice.
