Ollie the otter lives in a cozy burrow beside a sparkling river, and his days are spent swimming and exploring every bend of the water. One morning a carved piece of driftwood bumps against his paw, and its faded marks look like a secret map. Ollie dreams of hidden treasures but cannot read the squiggles and dots on his own, so he asks Kiki the kingfisher for help. Kiki can read maps from above, and together the two set out to follow the marks one by one.
Their journey takes them to a tall reed bed, a smooth stone shaped like a heart, and a small island with a single crooked tree, where Ollie gets stuck in the shallow, rocky water and Kiki helps him find a way through. The last mark leads to a gentle whirlpool that turns out to be a playful ride rather than a danger. When every mark has been found, a tiny arrow points to the middle of the river, and Ollie dives down to discover what waits on the riverbed.
The story shows young readers how curiosity and teamwork go together: Ollie's eagerness to explore is matched by Kiki's skill at reading the map, and neither could have finished the journey alone. It also gently suggests that the reward of an adventure may be the shared experience rather than the object found at the end. The book suits early readers and children being read to at bedtime who enjoy animal characters, simple mysteries and stories about friendship.

A Passage from the Tale
The Otter's Secret Map Çınar BİBER
Ollie the otter lived in a cozy burrow beside the sparkling river. His sleek brown fur was always wet from swimming, and his cream belly shone in the sun. Ollie loved to explore every bend and curve of the water. But one morning, a strange piece of driftwood bumped against his paw. It was curled and carved with tiny marks. 'What's this?' Ollie wondered, his dark button eyes wide with curiosity. 1
Ollie pulled the driftwood onto the bank and turned it over. The marks looked like a secret map! There were squiggles for the river and dots for special places. Ollie's heart raced. 'A map! This could lead to hidden treasures!' he squeaked. He dreamed of paddling to unknown places and finding wonderful things. But the marks were faded and hard to read. Ollie frowned and twitched his whiskers. 'I need help,' he said. 2
Just then, a flash of turquoise and orange zipped over the water. It was Kiki the kingfisher! She perched on a branch above Ollie, her long beak pointing down. 'What have you got there, Ollie?' she chirped. Ollie held up the driftwood map. 'It's a secret map, but I can't read it. Can you help?' Kiki tilted her bright head. 'I can read maps from above,' she said. 'Let's explore together!' 3
Kiki flew up high and looked at the map. 'First, we need to find a tall reed bed,' she called. 'It should be near the river's edge.' Ollie paddled along the bank, his webbed paws pushing through the water. Soon, they saw a thick cluster of tall reeds swaying in the breeze. 'There it is!' cried Kiki, diving down. Ollie's tail splashed with excitement. 'One landmark found!' he cheered. 4
Next, the map showed a smooth stone shaped like a heart. 'Look for a big gray stone,' Kiki said, hovering above the river. Ollie swam around a bend and spotted it on the shore. It was smooth and round, perfect for basking. 'Found it!' Ollie shouted, climbing onto the stone. Kiki landed beside him. 'You're a great explorer,' she said. 'But we're not done yet. The map has more marks!' 5
The third mark was a tricky one. It looked like a tiny island with a single tree. 'I've never seen that before,' Ollie said, scratching his ear. 'Maybe it's far away?' Kiki studied the map. 'It's just past the old willow,' she said. 'Follow me!' They set off, Ollie swimming and Kiki flying. The river twisted and turned, but they kept going, eager to find the island. 6
As they rounded a bend, Ollie saw a small island with a crooked tree. 'There it is!' he cried. But the water around it was shallow and full of rocks. 'Careful,' warned Kiki. Ollie tried to swim closer but got stuck. 'I can't move!' he said, wiggling his paws. Kiki flew down. 'Don't worry,' she said. 'I'll help you.' She pulled at a branch, making a path. 7
With Kiki's help, Ollie wiggled free and climbed onto the island. 'We made it!' he said. They looked around. The island was covered in soft moss and tiny flowers. 'This is beautiful,' Kiki said. 'And we found it together.' Ollie nodded. 'I couldn't have done it without you.' They rested under the crooked tree, listening to the river gurgle. The adventure was going well. 8
The map had one last mark: a swirling shape that looked like a whirlpool. 'That seems dangerous,' Ollie said, his whiskers twitching. 'Maybe we should skip it.' Kiki shook her head. 'But think of the fun! We can be careful.' They followed the river to a place where the water swirled gently. It wasn't scary at all— just a playful whirl. 'Let's ride it!' Ollie said. 9
Ollie jumped into the swirling water and spun around, laughing. Kiki flew above, cheering. 'Wheee!' Ollie shouted. The whirlpool was like a natural merry-go-round. When he climbed out, he was dizzy but happy. 'That was amazing!' he said. Kiki landed on his head. 'You're brave, Ollie.' Ollie grinned. 'And you're a great guide.' They looked at the map. All the marks were found! 10
But then Ollie noticed something odd. The map had a tiny arrow pointing to the middle of the river. 'What's that?' he asked. Kiki peered closely. 'It's a clue for a hidden treasure!' she said. 'Let's follow it.' They swam to the middle of the river. 'Now what?' Ollie wondered. Kiki looked down. 'Maybe it's under the water?' Ollie took a deep breath and dove. 11
Down, down, down went Ollie, his brown fur sleek in the water. He saw something shiny on the riverbed. It was a shiny pebble, smooth and colorful. He grabbed it and swam up. 'Look!' he said, holding it out. Kiki's eyes sparkled. 'It's beautiful!' Ollie smiled. 'The real treasure was exploring with you.' They both agreed. Teamwork made the adventure special. 12
Ollie and Kiki sat on the bank, looking at the pebble and the map. 'We found all the landmarks and a treasure,' Ollie said. 'But the best part was doing it together.' Kiki nodded. 'Friends make everything better.' They decided to keep the map safe in Ollie's burrow. 'Maybe we can explore again tomorrow?' Kiki suggested. 'Yes!' Ollie said. 'There's always more to discover.' 13
That evening, Ollie placed the driftwood map on a shelf in his burrow. He put the shiny pebble next to it. 'Thank you, Kiki,' he said. 'You're the best map reader ever.' Kiki chirped happily. 'And you're the bravest otter.' They promised to meet at sunrise for another adventure. Ollie's heart felt warm.
