The Owl's Secret Garden

The Owl's Secret Garden

Çınar BİBER

Olive is an owl with soft brown and cream feathers, large round amber eyes, and tiny gold-rimmed spectacles, who lives in a tall oak tree at the edge of a quiet meadow. On a clear night she spots a soft glow in the distance and discovers a hidden garden behind a hedge, filled with strange flowers that glow under the moon and open their petals only in the dark. Certain that such a secret is worth sharing, she invites her friends to come and watch with her.

Bat arrives with a leaf satchel for notes, Moth with pale silver wings marked like moons, and Frog in his tiny woven grass hat. Together they observe blue, pink, yellow, white, and purple flowers unfold one by one, each in its own time. Bat fills his leaves with questions, Moth notices small details like dewdrops shining like stars, and Frog hops ahead to explore. When Bat's notes scatter on the breeze and a passing cloud hides the moon, the friends help one another and wait patiently until the garden glows again.

The story follows this single night-time adventure and the quiet routine of visits that grows from it, showing young readers how observation, patience, and shared curiosity turn a discovery into something richer. It is suited to children who are beginning to read longer stories and to anyone reading aloud at bedtime, and it gently suggests that beauty has its own timing and can return even after a little darkness.

A Passage from the Tale

The Owl's Secret Garden Çınar BİBER

Olive the owl lived in a tall oak tree at the edge of a quiet meadow. She had soft brown and cream feathers, large round amber eyes, and tiny round spectacles with thin gold rims. Every night, she flew over the meadow, watching for something new. One clear night, she saw a soft glow far away. "What could that be?" she wondered. 1

Olive flew closer and found a hidden garden behind a hedge. The garden was full of strange flowers, and they glowed softly under the moon. "I have never seen flowers like these," she whispered. She landed on a stone and watched. The petals were closed tight, but the glow was warm and gentle. Olive knew this was a secret worth sharing. 2

The next night, Olive invited her friends. Bat came first, carrying a small green leaf satchel for notes. Moth followed, her pale silver wings with moon-shaped markings shimmering in the dark. Frog hopped behind, wearing his tiny woven grass hat. "Welcome to the secret garden," Olive said. "Let's watch and learn together." 3

Bat fluttered around the garden, his wide ears twitching. "Why do these flowers glow?" he asked, pulling out a leaf to write on. Moth settled on a leaf and watched quietly. "Look," she said softly. "The petals are starting to open." Frog hopped closer, his golden eyes wide. "Ooh, they're moving!" he croaked. The friends gathered around the nearest flower. 4

The first flower was a deep blue, like the night sky. Its petals slowly unfolded, one by one, releasing a soft, sweet scent. "It's blooming!" Bat squeaked, scribbling in his satchel. Moth noticed tiny dewdrops on the petals, sparkling like stars. "So beautiful," she whispered. Frog laughed. "I've never seen a flower wake up before!" Olive smiled. "Neither have I." 5

The friends watched as more flowers opened. A pink one stretched its petals wide, and a yellow one glowed like a tiny lantern. "Why do they bloom at night?" Bat asked, his small bright black eyes curious. Olive thought. "Maybe because the night is quiet and cool," she said. "Or maybe they just like the moon." Moth nodded. "Some beauty likes the dark." 6

Frog hopped ahead to explore. "Come see this one!" he called. The friends found a flower with petals as white as snow. It opened slowly, like a tiny umbrella. "It's so delicate," Moth said. Bat wrote quickly. "White flower, opens at midnight," he mumbled. Olive adjusted her spectacles. "Every flower has its own time," she said. "We just have to be patient." 7

As the night went on, the garden glowed brighter. The flowers seemed to dance in the gentle breeze. Bat's leaf satchel was full of notes. "I have so many questions!" he said. "Why do the petals open one by one? How do they glow?" Moth smiled. "Maybe we don't need all the answers," she said. "Maybe we just need to enjoy them." 8

Frog found a patch of tiny purple flowers. "These are opening too!" he said, hopping around. The friends watched as each petal unfolded, like tiny fingers stretching. "It's like a secret show," Bat said. Olive nodded. "A show just for us." They sat together, watching the petals open one by one. The garden was full of soft light and quiet wonder. 9

Suddenly, Bat's satchel tipped over, and his notes scattered everywhere. "Oh no!" he cried. "My observations!" The friends helped gather the leaves. Moth found one under a flower. Frog picked up another. Olive stacked them neatly. "Don't worry," she said. "We can always write more." Bat smiled. "Thanks, friends. I'm glad we're together." 10

Just then, the moon moved behind a cloud, and the garden grew dim. The flowers stopped glowing. "What happened?" Frog asked. Moth looked up. "The moonlight is hidden," she said. "The flowers need it to shine." Olive nodded. "Let's wait. The moon will come back." They sat quietly, listening to the night sounds. Then, slowly, the cloud moved away. 11

The moonlight returned, and the flowers glowed again. "They're waking up!" Bat cheered. One by one, new petals opened, even brighter than before. "They were just resting," Moth said. Olive smiled. "Beauty can appear at unexpected times," she said. "Even after a little darkness." The friends watched in awe as the garden came alive once more. 12

From that night on, Olive and her friends visited the secret garden every night. Bat brought new leaves for notes. Moth wore her blue ribbon and watched the tiny details. Frog hopped ahead, always eager to explore. And Olive led them all, her amber eyes shining. They learned that the night held wonders they had never imagined. 13

One evening, Frog said, "This is my favorite place in the whole world." Bat agreed. "Mine too. I have so many notes now!" Moth smiled. "I love how quiet it is." Olive looked at her friends. "I'm glad I found this garden," she said. "But I'm even gladder I found you." They all sat together, watching the flowers glow. 14

The friends made a promise. Every night, they would meet at the secret garden. They would watch the flowers open and study their glow. They would ask questions and share discoveries. "We'll keep this garden safe," Bat said. "And keep learning," Moth added. Frog hopped with joy. "And keep laughing!" he said. Olive nodded.
