Rascal the raccoon wakes up early on his birthday, dressed in his red party hat and tiny blue bow tie, certain the day will be special. His first visitor is Grandpa Ollie the owl, who brings a gift unlike any other: a shiny wooden clock whose chimes, he promises, will bring happy surprises. Curious and warm-hearted, Rascal sits beside it and waits for the first chime.
Each chime of the clock releases a small card carrying a kind message from a friend. Pip the rabbit sends a challenge to race to the big oak, shy Hazel the hedgehog thanks Rascal for his kindness, and Grandpa Ollie reminds him how precious their time together is. As the chimes count up through the day, the messages draw Rascal's friends around him, leading to laughter, a shared picnic under the big oak, and quiet moments of affection that mean more than any object.
The story follows Rascal through one birthday and the gentle lesson he learns by sunset: a clock does not merely tell time, it invites us to share it. Children will enjoy the repeating chime-and-card pattern, the animal friends and the warm forest setting, while the tale quietly shows how small acts of kindness and time spent together become the best gift of all. It suits young readers and families reading aloud who like stories about friendship, gratitude and celebrations.

A Passage from the Tale
The Raccoon's Birthday Clock Çınar BİBER
Rascal the raccoon woke up early on his birthday. His soft grey fur was brushed, his striped tail was fluffy, and his red party hat sat snug on his head. He tied his tiny blue bow tie and grinned at his reflection. "Today is going to be special!" he chirped. The sun was shining, and the whole forest seemed to be whispering happy birthday. 1
Just then, a gentle tap came at the door. Grandpa Ollie the owl stood there, his big golden eyes twinkling behind tiny round glasses. His green knitted scarf was wrapped warmly around his neck. "Happy birthday, little friend," he hooted. From his brown satchel, he pulled out a shiny clock with a smooth wooden case. "This clock is special. Its chimes bring happy surprises." 2
Rascal's amber eyes grew wide. He set the clock on the table and watched the little hand tick. "Will it chime soon?" he asked. Grandpa Ollie nodded. "Listen closely, and each chime will share a kind message from a friend who loves you." Rascal's heart felt warm. He sat beside the clock, his bushy tail curled around his paws, and waited for the first chime. 3
Ding-dong! The clock chimed once. A little card popped out. It said, "Race you to the big oak! Love, Pip." Rascal giggled. He remembered all the games he and Pip played. Just then, Pip the rabbit bounced through the door. Her long white ears wiggled, and her yellow sundress with the daisy pocket swished. "Did you get my message?" she laughed, and they raced outside. 4
Ding-dong! The clock chimed twice. Another card appeared. "Thank you for sharing your snacks. Love, Hazel." Rascal smiled, thinking of the tiny hedgehog. Hazel was shy, but she always appreciated his kindness. Hazel peeked from behind a bush, her purple vest with star buttons bright in the sun. "You always make me feel welcome," she whispered. Rascal gave her a gentle hug. 5
Ding-dong! The clock chimed three times. The card said, "You make every day sunny. Love, Grandpa Ollie." Rascal felt a happy tear in his eye. He looked at Grandpa Ollie, who was watching with a wise, loving smile. "Time with you is precious, Grandpa," Rascal said. The old owl nodded and wrapped his scarf a little tighter. 6
Ding-dong! The clock chimed four times. "Your laughter is my favorite sound. Love, Pip," the card read. Rascal remembered the joke Pip told that made milk come out of his nose. He laughed so hard his party hat wobbled. Pip hopped up and down, giggling too. "Remember the one about the squirrel and the acorn?" she asked. They both burst into giggles again. 7
Ding-dong! The clock chimed five times. The card said, "You are a great friend. Love, Hazel." Hazel blushed, her black eyes shining. She had never said that out loud before. Rascal knelt down to her level. "You are a great friend too, Hazel," he said. "You always notice when someone needs a smile." Hazel's tiny red cap bobbed as she nodded happily. 8
Ding-dong! The clock chimed six times. "I treasure our talks. Love, Grandpa Ollie." Rascal thought of the evenings they spent watching the stars, Grandpa Ollie telling stories of the forest. "Those talks are my favorite," Rascal said. "Mine too," Grandpa Ollie hooted softly. The clock ticked on, and Rascal felt surrounded by love. 9
Ding-dong! The clock chimed seven times. "Let's have a picnic! Love, Pip and Hazel." Rascal's tummy rumbled. "What a great idea!" he cheered. He gathered berries and nuts, and his friends spread a blanket under the big oak. They ate and laughed, and the clock kept ticking softly in Rascal's bag. Every chime had brought a message, and every message made him feel special. 10
As the sun began to set, the clock chimed eight times. Rascal opened the little door at the back and found a tiny scroll. It read: "Time with friends is the best gift of all." His friends gathered around. "Let's make every moment count," Rascal said. They all agreed, and the clock chimed once more, as if to say yes. 11
Rascal realized that the clock wasn't just about telling time. It was about sharing time. "I used to think the clock was the best gift," he said. "But really, you are all the best gift." His friends cheered. Grandpa Ollie smiled. "Now you understand, little one," he said. "Every moment together is precious." 12
Rascal invited everyone inside for cake. The clock chimed nine times as they sang happy birthday. He blew out the candles and made a wish: to have many more moments with his friends. They all clapped, and Hazel gave him a tiny acorn as a present. "For our friendship," she said. Rascal's heart felt full to bursting. 13
After cake, they played games and told stories. The clock chimed ten times. Rascal looked at his friends and smiled. "Let's do this every year," he said. "And every day!" Pip added. They all laughed. The clock chimed again, and Rascal knew that time with friends was the greatest treasure. 14
When Grandpa Ollie got ready to leave, Rascal hugged him tight. "Thank you for the clock and for everything," he said. "You taught me that friendship is the finest gift." Grandpa Ollie's eyes twinkled. "You learned it well, Rascal. Now go and enjoy every moment." The clock chimed eleven times, and Rascal waved goodbye.
