🎧 Listen to the Story · 7:49

In the deep blue sea lives Wally, a humpback whale as big as a bus, with blue-grey skin and a pale speckled belly. One sunny morning, while chasing a school of silvery fish, he follows a shimmering light down between two tall rocks and discovers a hidden garden of colorful coral swaying in the current. The place is magical, but some branches are broken and others are covered in green algae, so Wally decides the garden needs care.

He is soon joined by Dazzle, a sleek dolphin with a coral shell necklace who blows away debris with her quick movements, and Tilly, a green-brown turtle in round glasses who has watched the garden for many years. Tilly teaches them to remove the algae gently and to tend the broken coral without causing harm. Working every day, the three friends clear the water, steady the coral and keep watch, and when a strong current knocks over a delicate branch, or a tangle of fishing net drifts in and traps the coral, they solve the problem by combining their different strengths.

Word spreads and other sea creatures come to admire the garden, learning to look but not touch, and a young sea turtle who accidentally breaks a piece of coral is comforted and taught how to repair it. The story shows young readers how patience, gentleness and teamwork can restore something fragile, and that caring for a shared place is a job best done together.

A Passage from the Tale

The Whale's Little Garden Çınar BİBER

Once upon a time, in the deep blue sea, lived a humpback whale named Wally. Wally was as big as a bus, with blue-grey skin and a pale speckled belly. He loved to explore the ocean, swimming past kelp forests and rocky reefs. One sunny morning, while chasing a school of silvery fish, Wally spotted a shimmering light below. Curious, he dove down to see what it was. 1

The light came from a hidden garden, tucked between two tall rocks. It was full of colorful coral—pink, orange, purple, and yellow—swaying gently in the current. Little fish darted in and out, and the water sparkled like diamonds. Wally's small dark eyes opened wide with wonder. "Oh my," he whispered, "what a magical place!" He swam closer, careful not to bump anything. 2

Wally noticed that some coral branches were broken and others were covered in green algae. The garden looked a bit sad and messy. "This beautiful place needs care," Wally said to himself. "I want to help." He used his long flippers to gently sweep away some loose seaweed, but he knew he couldn't do it alone. Just then, he heard a cheerful click and whistle. 3

A sleek silver-grey dolphin named Dazzle zoomed into the garden. She had a curved dorsal fin and a coral shell necklace around her neck. "Hi there! I'm Dazzle," she chirped. "I love this garden! But it's looking a little untidy. Can I help?" Wally smiled his gentle smile. "Yes, please!" he said. "Together we can clean it up." Dazzle swirled around, blowing away bits of debris with her quick movements. 4

As they worked, a slow, steady voice called from behind a rock. "Hello, friends," said a green-brown turtle with round glasses. "I am Tilly. I have watched this garden for many years. It is very delicate, and we must be gentle." Tilly showed them how to carefully remove the algae without hurting the coral. "Slow and steady wins the race," she said with a wise smile. Wally and Dazzle nodded and followed her lead. 5

The three friends worked together every day. Dazzle used her speed to swirl away dirt and debris, keeping the water clear. Tilly patiently tended to the broken coral, showing Wally how to use his big flippers without causing damage. Wally carried away heavy rocks and kept watch for danger. The garden began to glow with health again. The coral swayed brightly, and the little fish returned. 6

One day, a strong current swept through the garden, knocking over a delicate coral branch. "Oh no!" cried Wally. "What do we do?" Dazzle quickly swam around the branch, creating a gentle whirlpool to lift it. Tilly guided it back into place, and Wally used his flipper to steady it. Together, they fixed the branch. "Teamwork makes all the difference," said Tilly. They smiled, proud of their quick thinking. 7

The friends decided to make a schedule to protect the garden each day. Dazzle took the morning watch, swirling away any debris that washed in. Tilly worked in the afternoon, gently checking each coral branch for damage. Wally guarded at night, his large size keeping away any careless creatures. They also planted new coral pieces, carefully placing them in sunny spots. The garden grew more beautiful every day. 8

Word spread about the magical garden. Other sea creatures came to visit—tiny seahorses, colorful angelfish, and even a shy octopus. Wally, Dazzle, and Tilly welcomed them all. "Please look but don't touch," Dazzle would say with a friendly wink. "The coral is delicate," Tilly explained. "We all need to help keep it safe." The visitors learned to admire the garden from a distance, and some even offered to help. 9

One afternoon, a young sea turtle accidentally bumped into a coral tower. A piece broke off! The turtle felt terrible. "I'm so sorry!" she cried. Wally swam over and gently nuzzled her. "It's okay," he said. "Accidents happen. We can fix it together." Dazzle found the broken piece, and Tilly showed them how to reattach it with a special seaweed glue. The turtle promised to be more careful and joined their team. 10

As the seasons changed, the friends faced a new challenge. A tangle of fishing net drifted into the garden, trapping some coral. "We must free it!" said Wally. But the net was strong. Dazzle tried to pull it, but it wouldn't budge. Tilly said, "We need to work together. Dazzle, you pull from that side. Wally, you lift the net with your flipper. I'll untangle the coral." They worked as a team, and soon the net was free. 11

The coral was saved! The friends cheered and danced in the water. "We did it!" shouted Dazzle. "Because we worked together," said Tilly wisely. Wally wrapped his flippers around his friends in a big hug. "I'm so glad I found you both," he said. "This garden is special, but it's even more special because we share it." They decided to celebrate with a feast of tiny shrimp and seaweed. 12

From that day on, the garden thrived like never before. The coral grew tall and strong, and the water sparkled with life. Wally, Dazzle, and Tilly became known as the Garden Guardians. They taught other sea creatures about teamwork and caring for the ocean. "Protecting beauty requires cooperation," Tilly would say. And everyone agreed. The garden was a happy place, full of friendship and laughter.
