High on a quiet mountain, a red panda lives a peaceful life among the pine trees, gathering berries and sweet roots in his woven leaf basket and watching the sun rise each morning. He knows every rock and bush of his home, yet sometimes he wishes he had a friend to share it with. One day a new sound arrives on the mountain: a shy bird with shimmering teal, green, purple and copper feathers and a bright chestnut neck, later known as a monal, hiding in a patch of sunlight.
When the red panda greets the bird, it startles and darts behind a bush. Rather than giving up, he decides to be patient. Day after day he leaves small treats near the hiding place, sometimes berries, sometimes seeds, sometimes a shiny piece of quartz, and simply says good morning from a distance. The monal watches, curious but cautious, and slowly begins to step out of the bush. The two discover that they share a love of the quiet mountain and the sunrise, and their cautious acquaintance grows into a daily routine of shared breakfasts and side-by-side mornings on the flat stone.
This gentle children's tale is about patience, respect for another's shyness, and the small kindnesses that build trust. It shows young readers that friendship often begins with giving someone space and time, and that quiet companionship can be as meaningful as conversation. The story suits children learning about making friends and the feelings of those who are new or unsure.

A Passage from the Tale
The Red Panda's New Neighbor Çınar BİBER
High on a quiet mountain, where the air was crisp and the pine trees whispered, lived a red panda. His fur was warm russet-red, and his face had cream-coloured markings that made him look like he was always smiling. He had a fluffy ringed tail and small black paws. Every morning, he watched the sun rise over the peaks, and he was happy. 1
The red panda loved his mountain. He knew every rock and every rustling bush. He carried a little woven leaf basket filled with berries and sweet roots. Sometimes he sat on his favourite flat stone and listened to the wind. It was a peaceful life, and he was content. But sometimes, just sometimes, he wished he had a friend to share it with. 2
One day, a new sound came to the mountain. It was a soft rustle and a gentle chirp. The red panda peeked around a big pine tree. There, standing in a patch of sunlight, was a bird he had never seen before. Its feathers shimmered in teal, green, purple, and copper. It had a bright chestnut neck and a small crest on its head. The bird looked shy. 3
The red panda's eyes grew wide with wonder. "Hello!" he called softly. But the bird gave a startled chirp and darted behind a bush. The red panda waited, but the bird did not come out. He smiled gently. "That's all right," he said to himself. "Maybe it needs some time." He decided to be patient. 4
The next morning, the red panda had an idea. He took his little leaf basket and filled it with the sweetest berries he could find. He placed them near the bush where the monal was hiding. Then he sat a little way off and waited. The monal peeked out with one dark, shy eye. It saw the berries but did not move. The red panda just smiled and stayed still. 5
Day after day, the red panda left little treats. Sometimes berries, sometimes seeds, sometimes a shiny piece of quartz. Each time, he smiled from afar and said, "Good morning, neighbour." The monal watched him from behind leaves and branches. It was curious, but still cautious. The red panda never rushed. He knew that patience was important. 6
One cool morning, the monal took a tiny step out of the bush. Then another. It looked at the red panda with its dark, shy eyes. The red panda's heart leaped, but he stayed calm. He nodded gently and said, "The sunrise is beautiful today." The monal tilted its crested head. It seemed to be listening. Then it took one more step. 7
The red panda began to talk softly about the mountain. He told the monal about the best places to find berries and the warmest rocks for sunning. The monal did not speak, but it did not hide. It stood at the edge of the clearing, its iridescent feathers catching the light. The red panda felt a little bubble of hope. Maybe, just maybe, they could be friends. 8
Each day, the monal came a little closer. The red panda would leave a treat and then sit quietly, watching the sky. He did not ask the monal to play. He did not ask it to talk. He just shared the morning. The monal seemed to like that. It would peck at the berries and then look at the red panda with less fear in its eyes. 9
One morning, the monal spoke. "The sunrise is pretty," it said in a soft, shy voice. The red panda's tail wagged with joy. "It is!" he said. "I watch it every day." The monal nodded. "I do too," it said. "Back home, I watched it from my tree." They looked at each other, and a tiny smile grew on the red panda's face. They had something in common. 10
The next day, the monal was waiting for the red panda. It stood on a rock, its feathers gleaming. "I like the quiet," the monal said. "Me too," said the red panda. "The mountain is peaceful in the morning." The monal took a deep breath. "Would you like to watch the sunrise together?" it asked. The red panda's eyes sparkled. "I would love that," he said. 11
So they sat side by side on the flat stone. The sky turned pink and gold. The monal's feathers shimmered in the light, and the red panda's russet fur glowed warm. They did not need to talk. They just watched. The monal leaned a little closer, and the red panda felt a warm glow in his chest. This was the beginning of a friendship. 12
From that day on, they met every morning. The red panda brought berries, and the monal brought seeds. They shared their breakfast and watched the sun climb over the mountains. Sometimes they chatted. Sometimes they were quiet. But they were always together. The monal was no longer shy, and the red panda was no longer lonely. 13
One morning, the monal said, "Thank you for being patient with me." The red panda smiled. "Thank you for coming out of your bush," he said. They both laughed. The monal spread its shimmering wings, and the red panda flicked his fluffy tail. They knew they would be friends for a long, long time. The mountain felt warmer and friendlier than ever before.
