In the heart of the great green forest, a little red squirrel named Pip discovers a tiny calendar woven from leaves, hidden beneath a fallen leaf. Each page shows a woodland festival, and one page marked with a snowflake announces the First Snow Celebration, only seven days away. Pip has never heard of this festival, but the calendar shows animals dancing and feasting under falling snow, so she decides the forest must be ready in time.

Pip gathers her friends and gives each one a job. Bramble the hedgehog collects acorns, hazelnuts and berries and stores them in hollow logs. Willow the songbird decorates the trees with bright leaves and berry garlands and practices a cheerful song, while Oaken the rabbit builds wooden tables and keeps everyone on schedule. Day by day the friends work together, checking the calendar and watching the sky as the air turns colder and the leaves rustle with a hint of snow.

The story follows Pip and her companions through the busy week before the first snowfall, showing young readers how a big task becomes possible when it is shared and planned. It is a gentle tale about curiosity, cooperation and preparing for something new, suited to children who enjoy animal stories and seasonal celebrations in a forest setting.

A Passage from the Tale

The Squirrel's Secret Calendar Çınar BİBER

In the heart of the great green forest, where oak trees stretched high and ferns curled like fiddleheads, lived a little red squirrel named Pip. Pip was small, but her curiosity was big. She wore a tiny acorn-shaped pouch on a leaf-green strap, always ready for collecting treasures. One crisp morning, while gathering shiny acorns, she spotted something odd beneath a fallen leaf. 1

It was a tiny calendar made of woven leaves, no bigger than her paw. Each page showed a picture of a woodland festival: a berry feast, a moon dance, a mushroom parade. Pip's amber eyes grew wide. 'A secret calendar!' she whispered, her quick twitchy nose sniffing the leafy pages. She carefully tucked it into her acorn pouch and scurried home to study it. 2

Pip spread the calendar on a mossy stump and flipped through the pages. Each festival had a date marked by a symbol: a sun, a moon, a star. Then she saw a page with a snowflake and a big red circle. The festival was called the First Snow Celebration, and it was coming soon! Pip's fluffy tail twitched with excitement and worry. 3

The date was only seven days away. Pip looked at the sky and knew the first snow would arrive soon after. She had never heard of this festival before. But the calendar showed a picture of animals dancing and feasting under falling snow. 'We must be ready!' she declared. 'But there's so much to do!' She made a plan, her tiny ears perked with determination. 4

Pip visited her friend Bramble the hedgehog, who was busy rolling berries into a basket. Bramble wore a tiny blue scarf and a woven basket for gathering nuts. 'A festival before the first snow?' Bramble said, her small dark eyes sparkling. 'Count me in! I can gather nuts and berries. We'll need plenty of food for the feast.' She bustled off, her stubby legs moving quickly. 5

Next, Pip flew to see Willow the songbird, perched high in a birch tree. Willow's blue-grey feathers shimmered, and a red ribbon fluttered around one leg. 'A festival? How wonderful!' Willow chirped, her bright black eyes shining. 'I'll lead the songs and decorate the trees with bright leaves and berries. We'll make the forest sing!' She trilled a happy melody. 6

Finally, Pip hopped to Oaken the rabbit, who was stacking small wooden planks. Oaken wore a yellow knitted vest with a pocket full of nails. 'A festival before the first snow? That's soon,' Oaken said calmly, his long ears standing tall. 'But with a good plan, we can do it. I'll build tables and keep everyone on schedule.' He patted his pocket and smiled. 7

Pip gathered her friends under the old oak tree. 'Everyone has a job,' she announced, her amber eyes bright. 'Bramble will gather nuts and berries. Willow will practice songs and decorate. Oaken will build tables and keep time. I will make sure we're ready before the snow.' The friends nodded, eager to help. They agreed to meet every day to work together. 8

Each day, the friends worked hard. Bramble scurried through the underbrush, her basket overflowing with acorns, hazelnuts, and juicy berries. She stored them in hollow logs, keeping the food supply steady and organized. 'We'll have a feast fit for a king!' she chuckled, her spiny back bobbing as she carried another load. The forest floor was dotted with her hard work. 9

Willow fluttered from branch to branch, tying bright red and gold leaves to the twigs. She wove berry garlands and practiced a cheerful song. 'La la la, the snow will fall, but we'll have fun and feast with all!' she sang. The other birds joined in, and soon the whole grove was filled with music. Willow's red ribbon danced as she worked. 10

Oaken measured and sawed, building small wooden tables and benches. He kept a careful eye on the calendar. 'Three days left,' he reminded the others. 'We need to finish the decorations and practice the songs.' Pip checked the calendar each morning, her quick nose twitching at the changing sky. The air grew colder, and the leaves rustled with a hint of snow. 11

On the sixth day, dark clouds gathered. Pip felt a cold breeze and knew the snow was near. 'Hurry!' she called. 'The first snow could come any moment!' Bramble rolled the last nuts into a hollow log. Willow tied the final berry garland. Oaken set up the tables around the Great Oak. Everyone worked together, their breath making little puffs in the chilly air. 12

Just as the last table was placed, a tiny white flake drifted down. Then another, and another. 'It's snowing!' Pip squeaked. But the festival was ready. The tables were laden with nuts and berries. The trees sparkled with colorful leaves and berries. And the animals gathered, their eyes wide with wonder. 'We did it!' Bramble cheered, adjusting her blue scarf. 13

The First Snow Celebration began. Willow led the singing, her voice clear and bright. Oaken served the food on his wooden tables. Bramble made sure everyone had a share. Pip watched with a warm heart as her friends laughed and danced in the falling snow. 'Good planning helped us all share this happy day,' she said, her amber eyes glowing with joy. 14

The animals played games and told stories until the stars came out. Pip opened her acorn pouch and looked at the secret calendar. She turned to the next page and saw a picture of a spring flower festival. 'There will be more celebrations,' she whispered.
